Meet Dr. Baekyu Kim!
Music Director
Pianist Baekyu Kim has earned international acclaim for a unique artistry that seamlessly blends commanding technical mastery with a profound, gentle musicality. Praised by the Journal News for his soulful expression, Dr. Kim has captivated audiences across the United States, Europe, and Asia as both a celebrated soloist and a visionary director.
Currently, Dr. Kim serves as the Artistic Director of the New York Piano Ensemble and the Associate Director of the Miclot Chamber Players, roles that underscore his leadership in the contemporary classical music scene. His distinguished career is highlighted by two solo recitals at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall. Following his receipt of the Artists International Special Presentation Award, his 2009 debut featured the world premiere of Lutine by American composer Richard Cornell. He returned for a second solo engagement at the prestigious venue in 2016. His global reach includes performances at the Salle Cortot in Paris, the Tanglewood Music Center, and major cultural hubs in Germany and South Korea.
A versatile collaborator, Dr. Kim is also the leader of the Boston Soloists Ensemble and a member of Trio Klaritas. He has been a featured artist in diverse settings, from the Hawaii Public Radio Concert Series to the Dancer in Mocomoco project in New York City. His accolades include the Young Artist honor from the Korean Music Journal and top honors at the Boston University Honors Competition.
Dr. Kim’s extensive academic background reflects a rich, international pedagogical heritage. He earned his Doctor of Musical Arts from Boston University and his Master of Music from SUNY Purchase. His European training includes the Diplôme Supérieur and Perfectionnement from the Conservatoire National de Versailles, as well as studies at the École Normale de Musique de Paris. Based in Boston, Massachusetts, he continues to shape the musical landscape through performance, artistic leadership, and education.
